Wheat Buns and the Great Prayer Day!

Those of my readers who have visited Scandinavia this time of year and my country, Denmark, in particular may have been introduced to a special kind of food from the Scandinavian cuisine, namely wheat buns or hveder in Danish. :-)

This recipe has a special meaning for many people in my country this week as it’s customary for people to eat wheat buns the day before the Great Prayer Day  (Store Bededag) holiday which this year will be celebrated on April 18, and many families -  my own included – will, therefore, be eating wheat buns today. :-)

Of course, one doesn’t have to be religious to enjoy this custom.
