Art Book Review: Bohemian Paris: Picasso, Modigliani, Matisse, and the Birth of Modern Art by Dan Franck

By europadanica

As some of my readers might have guessed, I have a lot of interests – one of which is art history. :-)

Therefore, I’d also like recommend a book on Paris and its artists at the beginning of the last century.

The book was originally published in French, but has later been translated into English.

Much like art itself the book has received positive and negative criticism in equal measure – especially where the English translation is concerned.

However, for anyone interested in an informal, almost bohemian introduction to a groundbreaking period in time – artistically as well as historically – this book certainly makes for a fascinating read as it also contains quite an extensive bibliography of historical sources that might inspire further art history reads.

As always, Happy Reading! :D

Thanks for the review, I love this time period in art and if the book has quality reproductions – as this one sounds like it does – then I will definitely pick this up. The new art book reproductions are so nice for really getting a sense of color.

You’re very welcome. So glad you liked this review.

It’s an excellent read with lots of information on the artists, their paintings with many interesting pics – mainly of the artists – but with many references to the paintings elsewhere in the book.

Happy Reading and thanks for visiting and commenting.
